Little Archer

Hidden within the quiet, historic streetscape of North Adelaide, Little Archer presents a sophisticated study in modern infill design.

Little Archer proves that high-density living doesn't have to sacrifice a sense of home. These two contemporary residences use the tactile heritage of Austral Bricks San Selmo Classico in Limewash to create a dialogue between old-world craft and new-age.

The challenge of designing in one of Adelaide’s most established heritage precincts is balancing the weight of history with the requirements of functional, modern living. At Little Archer, this is achieved through a material palette that feels as though it has always belonged.

The two brand-new homes stand as a testament to impeccable craftsmanship, utilising a "limewashed" aesthetic to soften the contemporary lines of the architecture and draw inspiration from the surrounding stone and masonry cottages.

To achieve a finish that reflects both quality and character, the design team selected Austral Bricks San Selmo Classico in Limewash. Manufactured in Italy, these kiln-fired clay bricks carry a strong European heritage that is immediately evident in their tactile, irregular surface.

Inspired by the appearance of recycled bricks, the San Selmo Classico range offers a distinctive rustic finish. The Limewash tone, in particular, provides a luminous, chalky texture that catches the South Australian sun, creating a genuine warmth that shifts throughout the day. By opting for premium imported brick, the project team ensured that the homes possessed a lived-in feel the moment the scaffolding came down.

Beyond their aesthetic appeal, the bricks provide the thermal mass and durability required for Adelaide's climate. UH Projects’ execution of the masonry is precise, allowing the rich texture of the San Selmo range to act as the primary decorative element of the facade.

“Little Archer represents a commitment to quality materials that age gracefully,” the builders note. The result is an architectural expression that doesn't rely on fleeting trends, but rather on the enduring beauty of clay.

Little Archer proves that high-density living doesn't have to sacrifice a sense of home. By centring the design around premium materials like San Selmo Classico, Zelda Gleeson and Sarah Stephen have created a sanctuary that feels both private and connected to its urban context.

Whether viewed from the street or experienced from within the light-filled interiors, these residences celebrate the intersection of Italian manufacturing and Australian design, a perfect addition to the historical streets of North Adelaide.
